New Homepage

Our homepage is evolving to a more user centred layout. You will find a feed of the MMU Radio Blog on the right of the page, and featured shows on the left. In the near future there will be a selection of our best shows to choose from and details of competitions and upcoming events.

Anyhow, to business. The website is now activated! The problems with the playout system have been fixed and you are now welcome to browse and use the new website.

The MMU Radio Story So Far

Student radio at Manchester Metropolitan University started in the 1990's with the award winning Storm FM, a joint venture between MMU, The University of Manchester, UMIST and Salford University. Unfortunately, due to financial difficulties, Storm was forced to close in March 1998 and for almost a decade MMU was without its own radio station.

That all changed in 2006 when a group of intrepid MMU students founded a radio society and resolved to bring student radio back to the University. Over the next year this team of dedicated individuals sacrificed much of their valuable drinking time to work on the project and, with a little help from some friendly university staff, successfully launched MMU Radio on 15 September 2007.

MMU Radio is now Manchester’s newest student radio station, broadcasting over the internet 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. More importantly it’s your radio station so if you have any comments or suggestions about our programming please feel free to drop us a line at feedback@mmuradio.co.uk.

Tired of Waiting?

We're ironing out some technical problems with the most important part of the website ... listening to the shows! When those problems have been sorted then we will launch the new website with immediate effect. Hopefully that will be by the end of this week, but if it takes longer then we'll let you know!

MMU Radio and MMUnion Websites to Re-Launch Together

MMUnion is redesigning their website in time for the release of the A-Level results in mid August, so we at MMU Radio have decided to re-launch our website at the same time.

A date has yet to be set, but is likely to be in the second week of August. We will, of course, be keeping you up to date here.

Blogging DJs

Ever wanted to know what our shows' DJs and presenters get up to when they aren't behind the mic? Neither did we, but if you do find yourself with time to kill then why not take a look at their personal blogs.

To start off with we've got the presenter of JR's Radio Show, JR, with his blog, The World of JR.

More will be added when we can find them on the web, or when the DJs give us the addresses! They will be listed in the blogroll on the right.

New MMU Radio Website Coming Soon

MMUnion Goes Wireless

In May 2006, MMUnion Student Council passed a motion resolving that, just like all other buildings on campus, WiFi facility should be provided in Students Union building as it will be quite useful for students.

This was taken up positively by university and for last couple of weeks the university has been quite busy installing wireless routers around the building and I am glad to say that they have now been switched on. You can access the Internet in any part of the building whether it be bar, shop or a meeting room. You just need to have your WiFi capable laptop with you.

You can only access the network if you are student at MMU as you need your ID and password to login.
